Lawlor Best Practices
Rehabilitation Therapists are support personnel and they are not regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). RHPA's minimum standards of practice for registered members supervising programs implemented by support personnel have been incorporated into the development of Lawlor Therapy Support Services policy and procedures.
Regulated Health Care Professionals:
- Include: nurse, psychologist, physician, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech therapist
- Performs the assessment.
- Recommends the program and develops the program goals with the therapy support worker
- Assesses the success of the program based on information and data provided by the rehabilitation therapists
- Has input into the program, contact with the rehabilitation therapists regarding the program.
- Meets with the rehabilitation therapists at the onset of the program to discuss program goals, objectives, and procedures for the program.
- Monitors the rehabilitation therapists.
- Follows-up with the client and the rehabilitation therapists at least mid program and at the end of the program to assess if the goals have been met and recommend further interventions or referrals.
- Is ultimately responsible for any changes made to the program.
- Works with the rehabilitation therapists to set up a schedule with specific objectives.
Rehabilitation Therapists:
- Commits to the time frame outlined by the Regulated Health Care Professional.
- Meets with the Regulated Health Care Professional to discuss the goals and objectives of the program.
- Implements the program as outlined by the Regulated Health Care Professional.
- Maintains weekly contact with the Regulated Health Care Professional
- Does not complete assessments.
- Does not make recommendations to the client without direction from the Regulated Health Care Professional involved.
- Does not conduct case management.
