Lawlor Therapy Support Services is pleased to announce the addition of our

"Survivor Scrapbooking Club"

Creative scrap booking is a tool for life review. The primaty function of a scrapbook is story telling. Throught the chronological organization of photos and journalying by themes, moments are captured of the past that are recognized and preserved.

The paramount component of a creative scrapbook is the Journaling element. Journaling provides individuals with the opportunity to document the who, what, where and when details of the photos for each scrapbook page. This element provides a story telling function and reminder of past events. Journaling can also include thoughts, poems, quotes, songs and prvervs that add to the theme of the scrapbook page.

Why become a member ?

Scrapbooking has many benefits for survivors......

  • For thoses survivors with memory deficits, the scrapbook acts as a memory aid of life stories. Therefore, being useful when meeting new people and/or old friends and family.
  • For non verbal clients the photos can be used as a communitcation device and a biography.
  • The cutting and pasting component of the creation of a page will allow and promote survivors with poor fine motor skills to practice and improve their skills while participating in a meaningful and personal activity.
  • The scrap booking process can be adapted to almost any deficit and/or physical impairment. For example scrap booking tools such as punches, stickers and stencils make decorating and creating a page, easier using gross motor skills.
  • Scrap booking tools and decorations make decision making easier and less frustrating for survivors.
  • Family and friends can be incorporated in the scrap booking processes. Especially during the Journaling components.
  • Scrap booking is a continuous process/hobby. A survivor can continue adding and documenting important life events.
  • With the increasing trend of scrapbook classes, crop nights and stores the activity can promote social networks.
  • The accomplishment of completing a scrap book page enhances feelings of accomplishments and improved self esteem.
